Gardening with Intention

Intentions are breathed plans and hope for the future.

An excerpt from my fall journal:

"What I love the most about fall is the anticipation and the intention that is created to patiently wait for spring. Everything you do in the fall is forward movement for the future, hard work awaiting reward.

This time is some of the most labour intensive time in gardening. I have prepped my beds to overwinter, doing debris pick up and started my future planting organization. I added compost for nutrients and peat moss which is my favourite soil additive for making soil light and easily workable in the spring.

This preparation time is almost as nourishing as sowing your first seeds in the new year! The ground is made ripe awaiting a new year.

Call it the great reset."

In a way, gardening is a cyclical yearly ritual of growth and hope that lives out its full potential year after year. Every year compounds your knowledge of growth with trial and error and also provides greater insight into a more calculated direction as you gain experience!

Fall Planting

Here are a few pictures of this years' fall planting and planning projects underway at Poète Gardens:

We planted 90 peonies in the garden this year!

We planting more than 200 tulips outside in a metal mesh lined bed.

The rest of the tulips went into garage pots weekly to start our first attempt at forcing tulips!

More than 1000 in the garage

And lastly, around 600-1000 various Narcissus have been planted in the garden.

I now lay back, breathe and wait for the great reset to finish! So much spring life has been laid down and my work is done for now. A few short weeks will pass until the next phase begins!
